The participants of the Teaching Abroad for Global Competency Programme, hosted by the Ministry of Education(MOE) and organized by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Education(APCEIU), returned to Korea after their dispatch programme. The programme began last Fall with 58 Korean teachers from 10 Metropolitan/Provincial Offices of Education as participants, who were dispatched to five different countries: the United Kingdom(15 teachers), the United States(20 teachers), Australia(10 teachers), Russia(7 teachers), and Singapore(6 teachers).

Especially, the ROK-Australia Teacher Exchange Programme that began this year was a grand success with full support and publicity from the Victorian government. The Korean teachers and Victorian matching teachers designed and implemented co-teaching lessons in different subjects. The Inbound programme that will take place in the summer will be an opportunity to build a foundation for a sustainable exchange cooperation between schools of Korea and Australia.

The participants of this year’s programme were provided with a Pre-departure Workshop last December at APCEIU for their capacity-building in Education for International Understanding, and went through a field orientation through partner organizations in the UK(Creativity, Culture & Education), USA(East-West Center), Australia(Department of Education and Early Childhood Development), Russia(Higher School of Economics), and Singapore(Huamin Primary School) in order to expand their cultural and educational understanding of their dispatched countries. Thereafter, the participants were placed in their host schools for lesson observations and conducting co-teaching lessons with their matching teachers to local students, which incorporated Korean cultural components to their major subjects.

In January, 35 participants successfully finished their 4-week dispatch programme in the UK and the USA, and the 23 participants who were sent to Australia(3 weeks), Russia(2 weeks) and Singapore(2 weeks) finished their programme on the 1st of March.
