The Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, have co-organized the 12th EIU Photo Class in Cappadocia, Turkey, from November 26th to  December 2nd, 2014. Under the theme of “Discovering Peace Through  Ancient Wonder,” 21 Turkish and 6 Korean secondary school students, along with 4 professional photographers from Korea and Turkey,  participated in a week long worthy experience of exploring and valuing the cultural and natural heritage of Turkey through  photography.

This year, the photographs taken by the students and photographers were developed and displayed at the 12th EIU Photo Class Exhibition, which was launched on December 2nd, 2014, at the G?ray Museum in Cappadocia (Avanos), Turkey for seven days. On opening day, all the participants, classmates, parents, teachers, local media and the community came together at the gallery to celebrate the beginning of the exhibition. Dr. Utak CHUNG, Director of APCEIU, Dr. Hilmi BENG?, Vice-President of Communication Committee of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO on behalf of Prof. Dr. M. ?cal O?UZ, the President of Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, and Mr. Mehmet Ceylan and Mr. Mustafa Eldivan, Governors of  Nev?ehir and Avanos respectively, attended the opening ceremony to congratulate the students’ achievement.

The exhibition presented various charms of Turkey’s Cappadocia region through the students’ photos and it also shared the treasures of nature and humanity with the audience. During this exhibition, a small collection of photos that capture the diverse and dynamic scenes of Korea were taken by various Korean photographers. These photos were  also displayed  to be shared with the Turkish audience.

The online exhibition of the 12th EIU Photo Class will be available worldwide early next year at the EIU Photo Class website: photoclass.unescoapceiu.org. Through the exhibition, the photos will  be disseminated as an authentic reference to other cultural spheres  in discovering the glorious heritage of Turkey.
