As beginning of plan for constructing cultural building in Afghanistan, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) gave public notice of a bid for the design of Bamiyan Museum and Cultural Centre in kabul, Afghanistan on 4 September. The museum and cultural centre will be built in Bamiyan, Afghanistan and used as a space for exhibitions and cultural training. They will be constructed on a site some 26,000 square meters in size, on the highlands of Chawni Mountain.

At that day’s announcement, UNESCO said the museum and cultural centre paves the way towards future tourism opportunities in Bamiyan and preserving their own cultural heritage. Also, UNESCO thanked the Goverment of Republic of Korea for providing the $5.4 million for the building of them.
 The design competition will be supposed to happen in the end of the year. According to UNESCO, bids are welcome what can show the importance of cultural identity of the Bamiyan Valley.

Bamiyan is famous for cultural landscape and archaeological buddhistic remains of the Bamiyan valley, especially of Bamiyan cave temple and huge statue of the Buddha on cliff (The statue of the Buddha destroyed by Taleban in 2001). This valley was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2003.
