As a part of GCED content development utilizing photography, APCEIU published a GCED Photobook “Begin from the end -> From Siberia to Baltic Sea”. This photobook contains around 130 photos that were taken during the journey on Trans-Siberian Railway crossing the Eurasia continent. The book also carries interesting stories which describes cities and people from each train stops with perspective of Global Citizenship Education.

The background for this photobook, Russian Federation not only has diversity of peoples and cultures from the largest territory in the world but also is a country with unique identity which encompasses both Europe and Asia. 

APCEIU hopes to share with readers the vast nature of Siberia, stories of peoples, and the unforgettable experiences of sharing and communicating through the journey on train. APCEIU also aims at delivering the core values of GCED such as Cultural Diversity, Peace and Learning to Live Together through images and stories in this book.

The Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity Act, in following the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, passed a plenary session of the National Assembly of the ROK(Republic of Korea) on the 2nd of May 2014. 

The act, on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, was established for specific implementation to reflect the rights and obligations required by the international convention.

After UNESCO’s Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in 2001, UNESCO adopted the convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in 2005. This convention took effect in the Republic of Korea, the 110th country to ratify, in July 2010.

Regarding the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the law consists of 15 clauses : the definition of cultural diversity and cultural expressions based on the UNESCO Convention the accountability of the nations and local governments for ensuring cultural diversity the planning and implementation of Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions the constitution of the cultural diversity committee, which belongs to prime minister Reporting and submitting the UNESCO country reports according to the agreement Survey and annual report on cultural diversity Designation of World Day for Cultural Diversity Supporting the protection and promotion of cultural diversity.

According to the press release by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of ROK, an official in the Ministry stated, Respect for cultural diversity and cultural pluralism is one of the values that the country should pursue and through increasing the acceptability of cultural diversity, they will keep trying to carry out the basis of cultural prosperity and create a new culture.

This Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions Act will come into effect in ROK, six months later after its promulgation.
