The Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) held the UNPAR International Student Conference 2015 on Global Citizenship from 16 to 25 January 2015 in Bandung, Indonesia. Under the theme of “Sustainable Urban and Human Settlement ? Creating a Smart City for All,” the 10-day conference saw student participants from 27 countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Japan and Russia come together to discuss issues of urban sustainability with various experts in the field.

The conference consisted of lectures given by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) officials, the mayor of Bandung city, university professors as well as other experts in the field. As Ida Susanti, chairman of ISC 2015, reminded the participants, the conference objective was to "invite the community and students to realize that we no longer live in a world that is fragmented. The problem in this world is a problem that must be faced together.”

Participants also made various site visits to problematic areas in North Jakarta as well as future “smart cities” such as the New Parahyangan city and the town of Bogor. Through such site visits, participants brainstormed about policy recommendations regarding urban development study and human settlement. In addition, the conference also included some cultural activities such as batik technology and traditional dance and games, further promoting cultural understanding among international participants.
