The consultation meeting took place at UNESCO Headquarters, on 21-22th March, and international experts in education and in the prevention of violent extremism around the world gathered to share experiences and advise to develop the document of the technical guide. The guide will be designed to guide policy-makers of ministries of education to plan and implement the effective and appropriate education-based activities that can deal with the main issues of violent extremism. Also, A Teacher’s Guide on the Prevention of Violent Extremism, a publication made for educators, will be complemented.

The meeting highlighted the role and responsibilities of the educator sector on the topic of prevention of violent extremism, by providing realistic and pragmatic guidelines to policy-makers. To be addressed in the guide, critical issues, such as specific responsibilities of teachers, key skills and competencies that can against violent extremism and effective ways that educational stakeholders and other sectors of society can participate in prevention, were discussed.

This technical guide will be used as a policy tool in the education sectors based on world contexts, and the first draft will be finalized during the Global Meeting on Prevention of Violent Extremism, which will be held in September 2016.

33th Session of the UNESCO Generral Conference(3-18, November 2015) reaffirmed the Organization's role in the fight against violent extremism and in taking forwrd the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
